3- Soften The Line

Although I like liquid liner and it’s ability to really define the eyes, I’m not really a fan of the harshness of it. And, if it’s not applied perfectly, imperfections really stand out. To soften the look, sweep a metallic brown shadow over the liner. This not only diminishes the hard-line, but also helps hide imperfections.

4- Make It Last

Keep those lips kissable by sealing the deal. After your lipstick is applied, hold a tissue over your lips and apply powder over the tissue. This creates a matte look that lasts much longer.

7- When To Toss It Out

As much money as we spend on our beauty products, it’s hard to let it go, but at some point your makeup becomes unhealthy for your skin and eyes. This is especially true for anything that gets applied around your eyes, so it’s important to give your makeup drawer a good clean out every once in a while.

They brighten your eyes and provide a contrast to your dark lashes. This is a look that you can sport all year round and also wear with any kind of outfit."

CHOOSE THE RIGHT BASE SHADE

While selecting the base shade, always go for silver. This colour works the best because it makes your shadow colour come through and the smokeys silver hue makes your eyes look bigger and gorgeous.

How to wear makeup when you're 30

Thirties is the age where you cannot play around with bold makeup, but also not do everything subtle. You need to balance your makeup well so that you don't look too young for your age or too old," says beauty artiste Shahnaz Husain.

When in your 30s, your body goes through a series of hormonal changes. Thus, you soon start noticing all sorts of different spots on your face, pigmentation, dark circles, freckles, etc. To ensure that it doesn't take away from making you look beautiful, here are a few things you must do when you hit the 30s.

Choose full foundation coverage

Unlike in your 20s, where using a primer and concealer was enough to hide blemishes, opt for an even foundation coverage when applying makeup. To ensure that you cover all the dark splotches, even out your skin tone with a foundation that is a shade closer to your original skin colour. Next, begin to apply your makeup by doing light touches on your jaw-line and your chin area so that you can blend the colour easily, on your neck. To complete the look, dust a translucent powder on your face, so that the foundation stays for long.

Create structural support

As you reach your 30s, fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear. This is also the time when you start noticing that your skin starts to sag because collagen and elastin production begins to slow down. Explains makeup artiste Meghna Butani, "Sweep a light to medium shade of foundation or compact on the full-length of your cheekbone smoothly. This will lift your face and define it. It will also conceal fine lines and wrinkles."

Consider what needs redefining

Says Husain, "In your 30s, you should take note of what needs redefining as far as your features are concerned. For example, the shape of your lips may not be so regular, with tiny lines appearing at the edges. The best thing would be to apply foundation on your lips or a little concealer on the edges of your lips. A lip pencil in the same shade to outline your lips should also do the trick."

Go subtle

The way to make your features stand out and look elegant is by going in for a look that is subtle. You can achieve this look by keeping your eye makeup heavy but toning down your lips. Also, doing up your cheeks is recommended to make you look younger.

Choose a natural shade of lipstick

Though brighter colours like maroon, red and purple are popular, opting for a nude lipstick will make you look good. When you go in for heavy eye make-up, nude lips complement this look the best. Further, you must choose a lip gloss instead of a lipstick so that the lines on your lips do not show. However, if you wish to go in for a lipstick, remember to apply a lip balm before you start filling it up with the desired colour.

Perk up your eyes

To ensure your eyes look good, proper eye makeup is crucial. Choose a colour that matches your foundation and blend well. Opt for a darker shade of eye shadow (browns and grey look the best) and blend it well. Once you've done that, sweep a line of eyeliner on your top eyelids and on the bottom as well. To complete the look, add lots of mascara. However, if you are suffering from dryness around your eyes, it is best to use a lotion, keep it on for sometime and wipe it off with a cotton wool before you begin to apply your makeup.

Women's love with make-up item a long affair

A woman's love affair with make-up has its highs and lows like any relationship, but it can never be a reason to get rid of cosmetic products. A staggering quarter of of those polled admitted to keeping some make-up items for up to 10 years, says a research.

Also a glossy 40 per cent have admitted of not cleaning out their-make-up bags for over a year, with an additional one in 10 women being unable to recall the last time they ever gave their make-up bag a makeover, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The survey was conducted by online grocery store Asda.

The study also reveals that while 80 percent of women wear make-up, two out of five have never cleaned their make up brushes.

Of those surveyed, almost half of women were not aware that mascara should be replaced every three to six months for hygiene reasons, along with eyeliner and powder.

Make-up undoubtedly remains a girl's best friend, the research further reveals that women on average have eight make-up products on the go at any one time.

Lipstick is the most popular handbag staple with 71 per cent admitting it's never far away from their grasp, followed by mascara with a pumped up 39 per cent of women stating this is always at their disposal for a quick volume boost.

The brand also revealed that the majority of women's make-up bags contain at least five 'high street' items and two prestige brands.

"With so many women wearing make-up, it's shocking how many gloss over the importance of keeping their make-up brushes clean," said Christina Dalton, beauty and toiletries expert at Asda.

How to tackle hair fall

Jennifer Aniston is reportedly worried about her excessive hair fall and is undergoing scalp treatments to cure it. But you don't need to invest in expensive treatments to deal with hair fall. TOI lists some simple precautions to keep hair fall at bay...

  • Don't comb your hair when it is wet since this increases the chances of breakage. Wait for your tresses to dry before you brush them.
  • Be gentle while towel-drying your hair. Rubbing your hair vigorously can lead to unwanted breakage.
  • Use a wide-toothed comb since it gently detangles your hair and reduces the risk of breakage while combing.
  • Clean your hair brush and comb regularly. Dirt tends to collect on them, and this can also lead to hair fall.
  • Oil your hair regularly and indulge in a hot oil treatment once a week to keep your scalp healthy. This will keep you from losing hair.
  • Your shampoo may be harsh on your hair, so try switching to a more gentle shampoo. Chemicals can strip your scalp of its natural oil, leading to breakage.
  • Don't tie your hair tightly or style it often. Products can damage your hair and certain hairstyles can add a lot of strain to your roots. Also, avoid using elastic or rubber bands.
  • A balanced diet is key to healthy hair. Hair fall could be a sign that your body is not getting the nourishment it needs, so consume proteins and food rich in iron, zinc, vitamins A, B complex, C, E, and Omega-3 fatty acids.

4 things to do when you are bored in your relationship

Do you think your relationship has become extremely boring? Here are certain things you can do.

Remember why you fell in love:

One of the best ways to invoke love back into your relationship is by reminding yourself why you fell in love in the first place. You may have various things like going out with your friends over weekends, work etc to keep you busy, yet when you ponder what is it that made you fall in love with this person; you will soon feel the butterflies in your stomach once again!

Do things together:

There is nothing better than doing activities together that will reignite the fire in your relationship again. This way you will also spend quality time together and will get ample amount of time to focus on each other and on your relationship as well. Thus, setting one day in the week to either do home chores together or an activity together will strengthen your relationship for a long time.

Look for innovative ways to have fun:

Other than doing activities together, you can look out for ways the two of you can spend time together. This can be anything from going out for a bicycle ride during the weekends and exploring nearby areas or hiking to some destination.

Focus on yourself as well:

Other than spending time with each other, you should also look at spending some time with yourself. This will ease your mind and help you think clearly and also figure out ways the two of you can bond. Space is extremely important in a relationship and doing things on your own at times broadens your mind.

Stuck on selfies? Follow these rules

While selfies are great fun, they don't always come out as you would prefer.

Selfies have become a phenomena on the social networks around the world. From the biggest celebrities of the world to just about everyone, selfies are the best ways of expression these days. And if you are hooked on them too, then keep in mind these facts to get that perfect selfie.

Miss the mirror

Taking a selfie in front of a mirror is nothing but cheating the whole idea. Besides, they splash the flash all over the picture and smear it with unwanted reflections. Avoid clicking that and hold the camera facing yourself and not your mirror image.

Light that fire

Most selfies get messed up due to inefficient light. Dark and unappealing pictures is not something you want. So stand facing the source of light instead of turning your back towards it. This helps in bringing out clear images.

Photobombing

If you are not aware of this term, go online and see those disastrous selfies many have ended up with. A quick look at what is going on behind you is a good idea just before you make the click.

Angle it right

Not all angles are good unless they are the right angle. Position your camera a little on the higher side and turn your face sideways. Or even better, find an angle that suits best for your face, and once you find that, just hit the click button.

  • Applying a mixture of a teaspoon of tomato and lime juice, twice a day will help in reducing the dark circles.
  • Drink a glass of tomato juice with some mint leaves, lemon juice and salt. Drinking this twice a day is another remedy.
  • Prepare a paste of four to five almonds with some milk. Apply this paste over the affected area and leave for 10 to 15 minutes. This will lighten the skin around the eyes.
  • A mixture of a few teaspoons of fresh pineapple juice along with a pinch of turmeric powder, when applied on the dark circles regularly will help clear them.
  • Every night before sleeping, apply creams containing vitamin E and C around the eyes.

Tips to look younger

Who does not want to look younger, and in a quick way that does not involve getting surgeries or needles?

And you always do not need expensive anti-wrinkle and night creams. When you wear the right clothes and accessories, practice a great skin care regime daily, and keep your wardrobe updated you can take years off you without the large financial burden that operations bring. Here are some simple tips to look younger.

Get glowing

Lifting your spirits can actually lift your complexion too — wear a bright colour that makes you feel good and cheery. A bright yellow T-shirt or a cheery pink top can make you feel great and that reflects on your personality.

Update a trusted outfit

Wear one of your favourite outfits and then accessorize with a large neck piece — it can make you look feminine and young.

Go for flawless skin

A little makeup can go a long way. Take a few dots of primer/ corrector/ concealor to hide your age spots. When your dark circles aren't too obvious you look young and fresh.

Try out a new trend

Take off those boring black pumps, instead opt for a fresh pair of pretty shoes in metallic or pop shades.

Minimize your pores

Visible pores on your skin can make your look older. Here is a quick remedy — brew green/ camomile/rose hip tea and pour it in an ice cube tray. Let it freeze. Now wrap a frozen tea cube in a soft cloth and lightly massage your face for an instantaneous fresh look.

Open up and brighten your eyes

Use a creamy eye shadow that is shimmery and bright. Swipe mascara on your lashes to open up your eyes. Avoid thick eyeliners, because if not applied well, they may make you look older than you are.

Here's how to keep a deep secret

Got a secret that you can't reveal? Here's how to keep your silence, and your friend

Zip it, lock it

If someone close has decided to share information with you — despite your disclaimer — try and weigh the importance of this information, advises clinical psychologist Dr Manasi Bhat. Put yourself in their shoes suggests Shetty. Would you want those around you to be in the know if this was your secret, for instance?

Interestingly, there is a remedy. Pranayama, vipassana or any other form of meditation is a good tool to help your mind focus, and reflect on your actions. "Wait before you speak. Run the conversation you are about to have in your head first," says Shetty.

If you must tell, choose who you reveal the secret to wisely. Besides being a good keeper, this person should not be connected to your friend's world. This does away with the fear that more people in your group will find out. Better still, keep a journal in which you can jot down all that you can't repeat. Sites such as Whisper and Postsecret, where you can post anonymous entries, can help you scratch the itch without doing much damage.

Apologize, explain

In case the damage is done, "think through an apology that will work" suggests Shetty. "Offer an explanation but make sure you admit you were wrong and take steps to rebuild the trust," says Bhat.

Forgive, maybe forget

If someone has blabbered about your innermost fears and feelings to the world, do they deserve a second chance? Shetty says it's important to learn to differentiate between a mistake and a habit. Mistakes can happen once or twice but if you see a pattern, take a call.

If it's a friend you would like to keep, try talking it out. Express your feelings of hurt and betrayal in an assertive — not aggressive — manner. "Listen before you judge. Your friend is the same person who you chose to share your feelings with," Bhat says.

Size is just a number!

It's the body shape that matters. So what's yours? Read on to know more...

A woman's body is a work of art, but it still needs some finishing touches to bring out the best in it. So here are some handy tips to help you look great, whatever shape your figure might be. And trust us, you're beautiful!

Hourglass

Considered to be the most feminine and sensuous body shape, an hourglass figure is characterized by a small waist between almost equally sized bust and hip. Only around 8% women can boast of this sexy shape. And if you are one of the lucky few, here's what you can choose from to heighten your curves.

  • Snug dresses.
  • Cinch dresses that cling to your waist. Go for high-waist Aline skirts that fit at the waist and hug your derriere perfectly.
  • Avoid turtlenecks; those will make you look bustier. Go for round or V-necks.
  • Avoid dresses with heavy detailing on the top half. These will make your figure look out of shape. Make sure both halves of the dress are in sync.
  • Avoid super-skinny jeans. These will make you appear shorter. Go for comfort fits.
  • Pour yourself in bodycons, strapless and sheath dresses. If you want to show off your curves, opt for bigger prints in warm colours and if your want to downplay them, go for darker hues.

Katrina Kaif's full bust, cinched waist and perfectly curved derriere give her the flawless hourglass figure!

Voluptuous

If your bust, midsection and hips are full, you have a voluptuous figure. Taming your curves to look beautiful isn't all that difficult if you stick to these rules.

  • Good, fitted lingerie. This one's indispensable.
  • Dresses and tops in darker hues with V and scoop necks will give you a leaner look.
  • Don't go for stripes unless they are vertical and prints, unless they are small.
  • Opt for ruched dresses.
  • Go for skinny jeans paired with a flowy top. Do not wear body hugging separates.
  • It's a myth that oversized clothing will hide the flab. Instead, shapely, well-fitted clothes do the trick. Make sure tops are fitted at the bust and the waist and your jeans are not flared. A sleek belt will make your waist look slim.

She's voluptuous, and she's fabulous! Tollywood darling Swastika Mukherjee makes curves all the more sexy.

Athletic

It's not the last thing you want to hear, but if you have broad shoulders and a straight body without many curves, your figure is athletic. Worried? Fikar not, there are enough styles out there to make you look every bit of the woman you are!

  • Add the illusion of curves. Ruffled, frilled, bias-cut and fitted Alines will give you a curvaceous and feminine silhouette. Detailing near the bust line will give an illusion of fuller chest.
  • Add definition to the midsection by wearing a belt.
  • Stay away from strapless dresses, as they draw attention to your broader shoulders.
  • Go androgynous (mildly, of course) in cinched blazers.
  • Go cute in shorts with a ruffled top tucked in. Time to show off those toned legs.
  • Skinny jeans and high heels. Period.

Draw inspiration from Keira Knightley. Despite her small bust and straight frame, she exudes sexiness with her choice of wardrobe.

Skinny

You are skinny if you have a slender, straight frame. Though it wouldn't be difficult to look great, ill-fitted clothes can make you look awful

  • Create curves using ruffles, frills and pleats. Choose peplum, ruffled dresses.
  • Opt for thicker fabrics, as clingy fabrics will only make you look skinnier.
  • Use layers to create illusions of curves. Voluminous sleeves will hide your thin arms, while maxi dresses will camouflage your skinny legs.
  • Crop tops are great! You don't need washboard abs to look good in them; a flat tummy is enough.
  • Skinny jeans will look absolutely divine on those never-ending, slender legs.

Hollywood diva Gwyneth Paltrow has that perfect waif-like figure and she manages to keep looking good. And how!

Pear

If your hip is broader than your shoulders, you have a pear-shaped body. All you have to balance the upper and lower body to get close to an hourglass look.

  • The upper part of a pear-shaped figure is the slimmest. So, shift your focus there. Fitted collared shirts and tops with embellishment near the neck will draw attention to this part. Layer your tops to look top fuller.
  • Boat necks and scoop necks will make your shoulders look wider and in proportion with your hips. Adding layers to the upper part will also make your figure look balanced.
  • Shirts with scrunched or voluminous sleeves will add volume to the upper body. Blazers are great too if they go just past the hips.
  • Pants that are straight from the waist and flare at the calves are great! But avoid skinny jeans.
  • Avoid short skirts, as these will draw attention to the wider sections of your body. A maxi skirt, on the other hand, will look great!
  • Make sure you wear a slim belt.
