Unwanted hair especially on the face can be a major concern for women. Called hirsutism, it usually affects women from the age of 18-45 years. Though there are several options available these days, it still is a burning problem for several ladies. It makes them conscious of their appearance and can even lead to low self-esteem as they are often mocked for their facial hair. But experts believe that this condition can be controlled by adopting simple measures. Here are a few of them.
Drink spearmint tea
The reason behind excess hair growth is the increased level of male hormones in the blood (androgens). Although all women produce androgens, increased levels could lead to hirsutism,’ says Dr Navin Taneja, director of the National Skin Centre. He advises drinking spearmint tea twice a day for five days. This will help reduce the male hormones in your body which will lead to lesser hair growth.
Apply natural, home-made face packs
You may wonder if any face pack could help get rid of facial hair but the truth is, it does. When there were no beauty parlours, Indian women resorted to home remedies for solutions to common skin problems and one of them was excessive facial hair. The only thing you need to keep in mind is, as with any other treatment, you will have to stick to the routine to see good results.
Make a paste of gram flour (besan), curd (dahi) and a pinch of turmeric powder (haldi). Apply this on the facial growth, let the paste dry and then wash your face with water. This can be a part of your daily routine. Regular use will help lessen the growth says Dr Taneja.
Another face pack recommended by beauty expert Shahnaz Hussain is using a mixture of lemon and honey. ‘Mix 10 ml of lemon juice and 40 ml honey. Apply it in the direction of the hair growth with the help of a cotton swab and rinse after 15 minutes,’ she advises. Repeat this routine twice a week for two weeks to see results. A slight variation to this remedy is using a paste made of 30g of sugar, 10 ml of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 150 ml of water.
