How to perfect your lashes

Your eyelashes define your eyes and make then appear larger and more attractive. The right care and makeup can go a long way in thickening and beautifying them

1. Have a clean start

Clean lashes are important if you want your eyes to look healthy. Before doing your eye makeup, ensure that all grime and makeup residue are completely wiped with cleansing milk meant for the eyes. Remnants of old makeup can make your eyes look tired and full of unsightly shadows.

2. Condition your lashes

Invest in a good quality lash conditioner. It helps stop breakage of your delicate lashes, and makes them appear thicker and longer.

3. Use a lash curler

Most celebs and fashionistas swear by the eyelash curler because it can instantly open up your eyes and lengthen your lashes. For perfectly curled lashes, use a curler from the roots to mid-lash length. Be gentle. Never yank the curler from your lashes after each turn.

4. Powder them

Separate your lashes with a translucent powder when you are priming up for eye makeup.

5. Mascara matters

Mascara is as important as kohl in eye makeup, since it makes your eyes look more interesting. Don't start with a thick first of mascara. Apply a thin coat and let it dry. Then, apply a second coat to get a natural non-clumpy look. Too much mascara can make your lashes look poker straight, sparse (because they are clumped together) and unnatural.

6. Handle with care

Your lashes are delicate and will break if not handled carefully, so when applying and removing makeup, use gentle strokes. Don't scrub vigorously to remove mascara. Take a cotton pad soaked in eye makeup remover solution or baby oil, and hold it close to your lids. Once the makeup loosens a bit, gently wipe it off.
