How to Remove Dark Spots On Face

Knowledge is the first step to remove dark spots from your face.

Dark spots are a form of Hyperpigmentation

Hyper pigmentation is the darkening of an area of skin or nails caused by increased melanin. Melanin is a substance that gives skin and hair its color. It’s also called pigment. That’s why dark spots on face are referred as hyper pigmentation.

Pigmentation is related to race and location

in that people who live in areas with higher continuous levels of UV rays naturally have darker skin. In others words if you live closer to the equator, chances are you have darker skin as a natural protection against the ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Race and location are not the only reasons people develop spots.

Old age gets the better of everyone and spots and blotchy skin are just part of it.

How To Get Rid Of Dark Spots On Face

Regular cleansing and moisturizing is key.

An Exfoliate is an easy other the counter method to remove dark spots on face. A gentle exfoliate will remove the outer layer of your skin. Even though your face may be red and tender when you’re done, but after a couple of weeks your skin will appear lighter and feel rejuvenated.

A natural exfoliator that is popular is oatmeal.

Take a palm size of regular oatmeal and make it wet. Scrub it over your face for about a minute. It shouldn’t feel rough; add a little more if it is. Do this twice a day. See what kind of difference you experience!

Not all dark spots are going to be that easy.

Some will require professional help. If the basics steps to remove spots on face do not return results you should consult with a dermatologist. A dermatologist will most likely prescribe a skin whitening cream with the active ingredient called “Hydroquinone”.

For treating certain spots, the dermatologist may prescribe a procedure using intense pulsed light (IPL). It works by focusing the energy on the pigmented areas, breaking up accumulated melanin. You may experience discomfort with this method. The problem with IPL is that you may not get an even skin tone for your entire face.

Laser surgery can also be an option the dark spots are too deep to remove naturally.

The idea is much the same as removing acne scars. You basically will set up a series of appointments with your dermatologist to have the outside layer of skin removed by laser. Your face will have to heal between appointments so the procedure can last anywhere from six weeks to three months.

Whether you opt for laser or IPL, it is important to know that it requires an experienced and qualified operator.

Improper handling of any of them can lead to burning or scarring especially if you are very dark skinned.

Getting rid of dark spots on your face as with any type of health condition, prevention is always the best medicine.

Avoiding sunlight.

It will drastically improveyour chances of keeping your face young and free from blotches and dark spots. When you have to be in the sun for any extended period of time you should make sure to wear clothing and a large hat to cover your face.

Sunscreen is also suggested.

Make sure that its SPF is at least 30. And don’t be shy about putting it on.

If you want to remove dark spots on face and keep them from creeping back in, then using these precautions is a must.
